LLC vs S-Corp for Florida Small Businesses

By Asheya Dixon · July 1, 2026

An LLC is a legal structure you set up with the state. An S-Corp is a tax election you make with the IRS. An LLC can choose to be taxed as an S-Corp.

With an S-Corp election, owners who work in the business pay themselves a reasonable salary through payroll. This can change how much self-employment tax you pay.

It also adds work. You need payroll, a separate business tax return, and good books.

Whether it makes sense depends on your income and situation. Talk with me about your numbers before you decide. For legal questions about forming your business, talk with an attorney.
